FoodFight offers an innovative nutrition education curriculum for high school
students and teachers emphasizing critical concepts of nutrition, food politics and
media literacy. Our goal is to revolutionize the way students and educators think
about food and its role in their lives.
The fast food industry spends billions of dollars a year on advertising targeting
our children who lack the tools to make healthy choices and resist the lure of junk
food. FoodFight arms students with the knowledge and resources they need in order to
resist the lure of junk food and the advertising campaigns designed to encourage the
overconsumption of nutritionally bankrupt food and beverages.
In partnership with the Nutrition Education Department at Teachers College Columbia
University, FoodFight runs teacher education workshops to build a community of
teachers who are passionate about food politics and committed to encouraging their
students to think in new ways about the food they eat and the products they buy. Our
team of nutritionists, doctors, urban gardeners and chefs will be supporting the
participating teachers in their schools.
FoodFight offers a model for a national campaign to educate a new generation of
students who are knowledgeable about nutrition, take ownership over their health and
wellbeing and become socially active in the push to achieve nutritional justice.
