Default Settings

Because I'm a member of the Ubuntu Laptop Testing Team, I have to do a lot of (re-)installs. I don't really like a few of the default settings in Gnome and Firefox, so I whipped up a small shellscript to configure them to my wishes without it taking me an hour. It also looks cool to see the desktop react immediately to gconf keys being changed :)

So many changes, bit afraid of what will happen if I run that script :P ;)

Have you looked at sabayon? You ought to be able to create and deploy a standard startup profile with such things configured.

Yes, I know about Sabayon, but this is just a script for new installs -- ones without sabayon.

Interesting idea. For adding panel applets, I recommend just copying the directories from /apps/panel/applets from a working config. Failing that, have you considered just tarring up a small ~ with useful settings in it and having a script that wgets that unpacks it into your fresh homedirectory?

wget http://my.laptoptesting.mirror.local/homedir.sh | sh

Which then wgets the rest of the exciting stuff you want down?
